 Project Description:

Since the fifties, poverty issue received great attention worldwide. This attention proceeded during the late seventies and eighties, but regained great momentum at the nineties. During the twentieth century, economics and politicians gave great interest to the poverty issue, in order to limit or eradicate it, especially after the United Nations declaration of 1996 “International year for eradication of poverty”, which declared that the years extended between 1997 to 2006 for eradication of poverty. In addition to that the publications concerning farm development emphasized on establishing policies to improve living and economical standard of poor villagers. Various publications emphasized the importance of determining the essential requirement of poor villagers, in order to make them more able to satisfy their needs and to achieve continuous development aims. Therefore, it’s essential to recognize these problems, and methods to deal with them through preparation and application of development programmes taking into account production pattern for most villagers; in order to achieve prosperity, settlement, well-being of low income society.

Since poverty and backwardness represent old rooted problem due to its overlapped causes, a solid base should be followed to reduce its impact. Such a base requires knowledge that define who is the poor and the reasons for it, and to establish quantitatively the impact of poverty. Therefore this base (stage) of research is concerned with determining poverty measurement, development, parameters and limitations.

In spite of all attempts on the international level to improve living standards and to overcome backwardness through development, home power resources, and monetary resources, large sectors of villagers still have poverty problems. And not achieving noticeable development in their standard of living. Therefore, improvement of above situation will lay upon nations and planning institutes in the first stage. They should act through establishing proper policies to get rid of backwardness and poverty. Such studies should fulfill information gaps, statistics and unavailability in the case of poverty and well-being, through specified studies.

In order to achieve the present research objectives, many standard and economical techniques will be used such as factorial analysis to determine general trends of individuals according to their needs, and (FNA) to recognize the most demanding needs, problems, in the region according to the locals point of view.

The study area located at eastern part of Jordan, which occur through rain line of max (200m) / year and population of less than 5000 people.

Aims:

1- -Determination poverty lines, percentage of poverty and income distribution patterns, which represent basic needs of food and other essential materials, in some villages of Jordanian Badia.

2-Determination economical factors which determine poverty in the Jordan Badia.

3-Recognition poor and non-poor families according to poverty line parameters.

5-Determination factors responsible for improvement of life type for Badia community based on villagers questioners in order to achieve stable income.

-Working pattern.

Frame: (scope of work)

Hypothesis

The way to achieve improvement in village area and Badia based on the actual needs of the society. This should copped with supplying economical and social essentials inside the community itself, to overpass technical, personal, or institutional constraints. Therefore the study hypothesis assumes that rural development is closely associated with poverty and standard of living .

Doukhi. A. Huniati*

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the performance effectiveness of Human resources in statues among agricultural personal as being effected by personal characteristic and organizational environment. Data were collected from (77) persons (98% of the total population) selected randomly from workers personal in statues among agricultural personal in Al –Karak region .

Results showed that all respondents were not specialized in extension, though highly educated in other agricultural fields, and were of ruler origin. Workers performance and satisfaction were not low in general. Some sort of correlation was observed between the level of performance effectiveness and each of their personal characteristics, and the organizational environmental factors.

To improve the performance effectiveness of extension workers, it’s suggested that a training program be developed for them, and under graduate program in agriculture extension be established in the college of agriculture.

Abstract:

The study aims at identifying the factors responsible for the life quality level of the Bedouin community in the study area according to their actual needs.

As ample of (142) households was selected randomly from (35) villages, which are covered by the Jordan Badia Research and Development programmed. Factors analysis was used to identify the significant socio-economic factors for community development.

Community development in the region was affected by five factors: factor one can be labeled emphasis on raising livestock, factor tow can be labeled emphasis on economics of livestock production, factor three can be labeled emphasis on finance, factor four can be labeled emphasis on basic needs, finally, factor five can be labeled emphasis on potential of agriculture in the region.

It was recommended that planners should take into consideration these factors in planning community development projects in the area. The participatory approach and integrated rural development should be adopted to enhance sustainability of development and to satisfy the actual needs of Bedouin population.

Evaluation and Views of Agricultural Family Heads Concerning Sources of Information on Agricultural Innovation in Number of Badia Villages North of Jordan.

D.A. Hunaiti *

The Study is aimed at recognizing the most important sources available to agricultural media, concurring agricultural innovations and the evaluation of these sources , the study concentrated on extension services , the analysis of the relationship between various Sources of information to establish their integrity, the study was also amid at the social and economic characteristics of the head of the family . Basic data was obtained from 142 agricultural family heads , which were randomly selected from eight villages covered by the Jordan Badia Research Program . Spearman correlation coefficient were used in data analysis .

Results showed that most agricultural family heads received their information about agricultural innovations from personal and agency resources. However the role of extension services in this matter are not effective. It was found that there was a significant correlation between the information gathered by the family heads and their background as well as sex. A correlation was also evident between the sources of the information about innovations and the availability of social clubs, roads, postal service, ownership of tractors and sheep flocks. This study recommended that extension services be improved, especially in the field of animal production. This could be achieved by support and re-evaluation of personal needs to enhance their role in performing their activities effectively.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the rate of poverty in Jordan Badia, using abject line and absolute line method. Sample of three hundred and sixty family was used to determine the house hold expenditure and income for the year 1997.

Results showed that the abject poverty line is 100 JD monthly to an average family of (7.4) persons, while that the absolute line of poverty are 200 JD and 162 JD for family paying for house rent or not respectively. Families with abject poverty is 3.8%, and with absolute poverty are 28% and 15% for families paying and not paying house rent respectively.

This study recommends that an annual re-assessment of these lines of poverty to be carried out to evaluate economical status of these families in order to enable the state to re-evaluate financial help and allowances as well as determining fees and wages to ensure minimum acceptable income for living and improving standard of living for Badia inhabitants.

Development and Training of Agricultural Human Resources in the Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan : -

A Situational Analysis of Training Statues Among Agricultural personal in Al-Karak region.

Doukhi A. Huniati*

The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which civil servants of Ministry of Agriculture in Karak district was subjected and evaluation of the training programme to which they are subject through their questioners about their extension programme and to discuss their opinions.

The work reported here included all personal, working at Karak district, which included (77) personal, (44) of which are specialist and( 33) are of technical agricultural staff, data was collected using special forms, which are subjected to statistical analyses to calculate percentages and Spearman correlation.

Results showed that training is carried out in the right direction as far as specialists are concern. Most technical staff did not get enough training at beginning of their employment, but they achieve that through actual service. Their is weak correlation between training activities and actual job practices.

The present work suggest that a review of present training activities at Karak district, which should be carried out to achieve the real aims suggests of the training process.

Abstract: This paper attempts to identify the training needs and it’s determents among agricultural personal, in order to setup an approved and adequate training programs to serve the changing needs of rural people.

To achieve these objectives, an empirical investigation was carried out. All the technical staff (77) employed by the Ministry of Agricultural in Al –Karak region were interviewed.

The findings showed that, most of the respondents were in the age group (31-42) years over half of them held an agricultural college degree; the average number of years of service was about 5. One half of them didn’t receive any in-service or induction training. Despite the large number and various kinds of subject needed for future training, certain subjects were found to be more important as indicated by the respondents. The subjects were ranked according to their degree of importance as follows: - (1) agricultural extension (2) communications skills (3) computer (4) rural development (5) management (6) English language (7) management of forests. Types and patterns of the training needs are found to be associated with the current jobs performed and level of education. The amount of training needs and nature of past job and need the person to training in the future duties were found to be correlated.

It is recommended that a sound training program be established for agricultural personal in Karak region, and to make use of the finding of this study. The above-mentioned needs may be taken into consideration in designing future training programs.
